Institutional Trading

Institutional Crypto Trading in the UAE

Institutional access is an operating model: governance, counterparty approval, execution, custody, settlement, reconciliation, and reporting must work together.

01

Define the mandate before choosing a venue

Document permitted assets, currencies, position limits, trading hours, approved counterparties, custody requirements, leverage restrictions, signatory rules, and reporting frequency. A venue should be evaluated against the mandate rather than shaping the mandate around whatever a platform offers.

02

Execution options

Central-limit order books, agency execution, principal quotes, algorithmic execution, and OTC request-for-quote workflows each solve different problems. Compare expected spread, market impact, information leakage, minimum size, quote validity, partial-fill handling, cancellation rights, and post-trade reporting. Best execution is a process supported by evidence, not a single price screenshot.

03

Counterparty and legal review

Confirm the exact contracting entity, licence scope, client-asset treatment, insolvency language, governing law, dispute process, subcontractors, banking partners, and insurance disclosures. Review financial and operational information appropriate to the risk. A recognizable group brand does not remove the need to approve the specific entity receiving cash or assets.

04

Custody and key governance

Decide whether assets remain with a trading venue, move to an independent custodian, or are managed through a controlled self-custody structure. Establish whitelists, multi-person approvals, transaction limits, key ceremonies, recovery procedures, and incident escalation. The target model should minimize both external attack risk and internal control failure.

05

Settlement and reconciliation

Map pre-funding, intraday credit, delivery-versus-payment possibilities, blockchain confirmations, fiat cutoffs, failed-trade handling, and reconciliation identifiers. Operations teams should be able to match every quote, fill, fee, transfer, and wallet movement. Run small end-to-end tests before production size and repeat tests after material workflow changes.
